While I was in Gibraltar, I enjoyed an amazing sunrise from Europa Point. It was a beautiful morning with an epic sunrise through the clouds. The wind was chilly but the sights warmed me up. Not many people there but a few dog walkers and runners so it was like I had the world to myself! I sat up on a wall right on the corner with one leg this way the other that way. The sun exploded through the clouds and it as a great morning, especially the walk over there just guessing my way and walking through some wild stone tunnels. I was debating walking back when I convinced myself to just grab the bus since I walked so much the day before. What a wild web the universe spins for us! So I jumped on the red bus and the driver had to wait a bit to stay on schedule. In those ten minutes we started to talk. Michael was his name and he was born and raised in Gibraltar. Since he was little he had the urge to,travel and travel he did! He told me stories from all over the world and I was speechless. I was the only person on the bus and could of sat anywhere but when I got on I felt like I should talk to him. It was awesome hearing his stories and adventures. He loves Gibraltar too and I could see why after spending some time there. He asked me what I was doing in Gibraltar and I told him about the training camp I was part of and why not come to Gibraltar when I’m this close. It’s one of my catch phrases ” holy Gibraltar!” And now it means so much more! He asked me how long I was staying and I said just a bit because I need to start my camino! The warmest smile I have ever seen then appeared. “Oh the camino, very nice young man, I have walked that myself you know!” Michael has walked parts of it every year or so and just finished the whole thing short three years ago! He said it will change your life. And also went on to say that ” life is too short just to think about what’s out there, you need to get out and travel and find yourself”. Honestly the twinkle in his eye when we were talking about e camino reminded me of Santa Claus movies. He was the nicest guy with the warmest smile and such good vibrations came from him. Truly a gem and I feel, blessed that our paths have crossed. Michaelgave me a big smile as I was leaving and wished me fun adventures in the upcoming weeks of walking. He was impressed that I was going to do the whole thing at once but said I looked like a tough traveler who could handle it. He mentioned taking a few days off here and there isn’t a bad idea and the adventures from that will most likely be pretty memorable! Even though we spent but 25 minutes talking I feel like I’ve been friends with him for a long time! Pura Vida!
After my adventures in Gibraltar I was heading out and decided to grab a bus to Tarifa and head to Morocco for a quick night to see what it is like and then head out the next day via a cheap flight to Barcelona. So I walked back across the border of Gibraltar into Linea de la Concepcion and walked into the bus station. You just had to bit the tickets from the driver so I went outside to number 7 where she told me to go. I found a nice bench and took a seat. I had a few minutes before the next bus came so I opened my iPad to start reading a book on the camino! After a few chapters in comes rushing this girl who drops her bags next to me and runs over to another bus to task to the driver. I heard a bit of what she was talking about and she was heading towards Tarifa also. So when she sat down next to me and caught her breath I asked her where she was heading to. The next town over she already booked a bus ticket to take her back to malaga where I just came from. We just started talking a bit she the bus came so we both got up and boarded. She put her snowboard bag underneath and hopped on first. When got on she tapped the seat next to her and I sat right there. I found out that she lives right next to the station in Linea de la Concepcion and had forgot something in her apartment that why she was running and out of breath. I also found out that she is from the UK but had lived there in Linea for the last 15 years. Pretty cool that she had a snowboard bag so asked her about it. She only started snowboarding five years ago and was excited to head out to the Alps to board for a few weeks. What a cool trip! I love that the people who I talk to all love living and are out there to explore and enjoy life. She was a beautiful person with a beautiful smile! The bus ride flew by as we traded stories of travel and adventure and ourselves. I am lucky to have spent time chatting away with her and hope to see her again down the road. Especially since she said she is going to try to perfect the heel slap chest pop snowboarding trick! Any way she does I am sure will be great! I am excited to see what it looks like! Have a fun adventure snowboarding Elliot! Pura Vida!
At the presentation for the 30th edition of the Marathon des Sables I met this guy named Carlos who was doing the race again! That’s super cool! After the presentation I went out and walked around Barcelona to explore and see some sights. It all is beautiful and there are so many parks and castles it’s pretty cool. So I’m about to the top of the hill that leads you to a castle that overlooks the Olympic stadium. As I got to the top I turned crossing a road that led up there and was going to take a picture when I saw this guy running. Fuerte fuerte! Oh snap! It was Carlos! He went running after the presentation and I went walking and we actually met at the top of the hill! So we started talking and I found out that he has done the camino too! He has first walked it then he also ran it in 15 days! Whoa! He was a pretty Cool guy as is everyone that I have been meeting lately. They all say it will change your life and to walk for yourself. Ending the talk we parted ways with me saying. Buena suerte on the marathon and him saying buen camino! I feel like I am going to be hearing that quite a bunch so very soon!
After walking a whole day I made it back to Las Rambles and hung out for a bit drinking a sangria then made it my way over to the market. It was hustling and bustling with delicious fruit and meats and meals! I walked through looking at things. The fruit looked delicious and tasted great too! On my way out I though it would be a good idea to grab some fuet for a snack along the way. The guy behind the counter looked at me and asked if I was here for the Marathon des Sables! Whoa! Actually I am not but I was at the presentation that morning. He saw the Coastal Challenge buff I was wearing and said he wanted to do that one day! He did say that he was doing the Marathon! What an inspiration. Just going about his normal day and so so nice and going to be doing the hardest race on earth and he wasn’t sweating at all, just all smiles! That is the kind of people, we need in this world. Super chill yet super amazing! He asked me why I was here and I told him about my upcoming camino! He has been there and experienced that too! What a wonderful world! Buen camino and we parted ways both holding onto that smile of adventure that lies ahead!
During the first week of the Strong Like Bull training camp I had the pleasure of meeting Adiva and her son who was the daughter of Andy who was cycling in the camp. A great family that I’m lucky to have had the opportunity to meet! So when I figured that I was going to Barcelona, Adiva said that I should definitely look her up because she lives there with her husband! So I am in Barcelona and finally get some plans to meet her at her lake for coffee in the morning! Holy moly! She has the most amazing rooftop terrace I have ever seen! Such a beautiful view of the city for such a beautiful person! I enjoyed fresh coffee and oranges along with a morning filled with stories and planning and smiles! It was such a. Pleasure to wet Adiva and then two weeks later come visit her at her home! Pure magic I say! It gets even better because we started talking about how much she wants to do the camino and how maybe next year we both can bike it with her son when he can walk! That would be amazing! Thank you for the coffee and conversation Adiva! See you down the road! Pura Vida!
My official start hasn’t started yet and I am meeting some amazing people! What a beautiful path I am on! Pura Vida and adventure on!
