I made the decision after crossing nearby Torcal on yesterday’s ride, that I would return to see the iconic wind shaped rocks on the summit! Then a great idea came to me thinking instead of seeing just the rocks, I could be on too of the mountain for sunrise would would be pretty special. Talking to my friend Parker, he said if I made it up to the top early enough no one else would be up there and I would heave the whole mountain to myself! I love being on top of mountains with a little time to myself to just feel,it and take in everything with nothing but what I see, what I feel, and surrounded by pacha mama. My decision was made and I was excited! I stayed up late working on things and still woke up before my alarm went off! When that happens you know it’s going to be a special day! So off I go at around 6am to the top of Torcal. It was a twisty turns ride all the way there but I knew the road from being there a few times on the bike course so I loved it. Star light with with some headlights guiding my way I made it to the entrance to Torcal. Never been up that way yet but everyone said it is about 4 k to the top and it’s steep! Steep it was and on a cliff side too. It was cool going up there and I saw no cars yet so It was looking like a beautiful mountain morning to myself. About 2 k into the climb up I drove into the clouds. Not just a wispy clouds but thick clouds like if the air turned into vanilla pudding thick! Did I fret? Dare I say not at all! I have been to many mountain tops and the coolest thing is that you are usually above the clouds and looking down on them so that is what I felt going through the pudding clouds on the way up. Sure enough after a kilometer of not seeing I broke through like a runner reaching the finisher tape. It was still quite dark with sunrise not until 730ish but the views were already incredible. I could see the mountains beginning to be lit up way in the distance and see the clouds pouring over the lower ridges of the mountains. There is something special to be able to see clouds like that. It is like a beautiful dance with every movement so smooth and peaceful. Every now and then a little puff would jump out and turn into an awesome shape and design then disappear! I loved watching that! So,I finally made it to the top of the mountain and saw a trail which I just parked on the small road and hoped out of the car. It was super windy butto too bad at first. I walked the trail which took me to one of the famous stacked stones which were actually created from the powerful winds up there. Looks like the trail just stopped there but I saw a beautiful spot near the cliff by the edge of the mountain and I decided I would try to make it there. Some of the rocks were a little slippery due to frost up there but not too bad. I jumped from rock to rock making my way to the edge. I had to climb up a few pretty big rocks but they all had nice handholds plus I was excited so it went pretty well! Making to the top of the huge rock I could see the edge and a nice spot for me to experience the sunrise. Jumping a few cre aces that when the light came out were actually pretty deep, I made it to the edge! Yesssss! Standing there with my arms up I felt the wind and it was amazing! The colors started painting the sky behind the mountains and it was ready. The sun started rising and the colors began amplifying and the wind started picking up too! Clouds races over the lower mountains from the valley then shot up into the sunlight and turned the most amazing color like a light was inside of them! I sat behind a big rock to break some of the wind and smiled as the sun became brighter and brighter. I called it “pure magic moment” because that was what it was. The lead up you can describe but when it happens there are no words that even come close to,describing that moment. It is a feeling that you feel forever. It sparks that fire inside that sets your life on fire! I feel it more than ever and it’s incredible. I love these moments and when I look at these pictures that fire erupts like I am there again! I hope you can feel it too. At least just smile when you see it and share that smile with someone else. Such an amazing magical and beautiful morning that makes me feel like I’m flying! I’m still flying even whilst writing this! This is Pura Vida! Always Smile and come fly with me!
With the sun up and the warming rays heating me up I climbed around and explored this amazing site. So much beauty all in one place. I see this and just think how powerful Mother Nature is. Carving stone into amazing art with her breath. Just awesome! I enjoyed climbing around and exploring. Things I learned: if shrubs can handle the wind and cold they must be hardy and most likely have very sharp thorns! Second, even if it is a big stone, it may rock a bit and you can fall! Third, mud doesn’t pile itself up all over the place. Even though I didn’t see one I realized all that mud on top of the grass was actually mountain goat poop… Thank goodness I found some clean grass before I went back into the van! Fourth, very thing is just so beautiful. Don’t just look at things but open your eyes. See things and then feel them not physically but from the magic they give to you! This was such an amazing morning filled with everything and more. I was ready to feel that and feel,it I did! One of the best starts to a day I have ever had!
Strong like Bull Training Camp did the Guadalhorce loop and once again it was just perfect! Amazing views and hard working cyclists. More will and grit than I have seen it a whole watching my new friends conquering hills they did not know they could do themselves! It was an awesome day! To make it even better I went into the fountain of youth again aka the Guadalhorce Reservoir! If I was a judge I would rate that cannonball into freezing water a perfect rating! Coming out of the water the colors brighten up and you feel everything and that first sun ray feels so good! It’s quite the experience and I enjoy jumping I to the joys of life! So much fun and I’m pretty sure it brought a few smiles to the riders on the bridge!
After a long day on the road, it is so nice to come back home and to watch everyone helping each other out and getting everything ready for dinner. Such beautiful people here at this camp, inside and out, and it is my pleasure to be a part if this camp and the lives of all my new friends! Here is a picture of the “family” at the famous grill night dinner. So many great people, so many smiles, so much love. Makes everyday with everybody such an amazing gift! Loving every moment and excited to spend more time and share more stories with everybody! What an amazing day! Pura Vida! Adventure On!
