Oh Barcelona! You have stolen my heart! Not only with all of the amazing people that live here but by the buildings and parks that are around every corner! I love how much is packed into one place! I spent this morning right near Hotel W at a restaurant called Pez Vela for the 30th edition of the Marathon des Sables presentation. It was amazing to see how incredible that race is and to be sitting next to one was such an honor! Thank you Olivier and Cova and Patrick ( the original producer) for inviting me to be a part of it! It was a pleasure and an honor! It’s gets even more wild after the presentation! There were drinks and food which I snacked on and kind talked in phrases in Spanish to some people there bit mostly just enjoyed where I was at and the great energy around us all! So after some snacks I went for a hike to enjoy this beautiful day!
I could of stayed right here on the boardwalk for days! The people hanging out walking around, the sequay tours cruising down the beach, people in the water, people laying out, skateboarders, runners, rollerbladers, people playing frisbee, people in the athletic center working out or playing sports! It all was amazing and made me smile as I strolled along. I saw this cable car thing and went to investigate. For a few euros I took, the one way across the marina and over to the miramar hotel. It was a beautiful birds eye view of the city and the marina and the beach and everything! I did see the plaza de colon which started las rambles ( correct me on the spelling if you could) and decided after my walk I would head to that place, but we will eat to,that in a bit!
Up and around a few streets and imfound myself in beautiful paths and gardens and amazing stonework. I love how much space in this big city is saved for getting away and feeling like you are in the country. When I was here there weren’t too many people, just a few dog walkers, some romantics wooing eachother, and the running athlete. It was super cool. After taking this one path to the top where you can see parts of the. City and the Olympic stadium I kept climbing. At the top I stopped to take a picture and saw this guy running and cheered him on. Come to be he was one of the runners getting ready for the marathon des sables! How cool! We chatted for a while and I came to find out that he has done the camino de Santiago not once but twice! He walked it a few years back then ended up running it in 15 days last year! Whoa! That’s incredible! How is it that all these amazing people are coming I to my life to give me bits and pieces of advice and tell me their story of their camino?! It is just wild and I love it! It is like when i was in Costa Rica and thought I was lost in the jungle, I would always see a blue Morpho! A magnificent bluer than the eyes of the most. Wait imfl model with it’s under wimg being composed of the spectrum of darker metallic colors to cafe brown and with the glimpse of a sun ray could turn on as if there was a powerful, construction light inside it! The morpho became one of my spirit animals because inalways knew that I was on the right path even if I felt I was lost. If one didn’t come fluttering in front of me I would still see a post card or one painted on a tile so I became quite special to me! This is like the same thing but it is coming from the most random people and I love it!
After exploring even more and finding some truly amazing places in Barcelona, I went back down to las rambles where I enjoyed some nice bread and a fish tank of sangria! It was delicious sipping on the drink while looking put with other people packed in this beautiful place. Is as people for all over the world with a very wide variety of styles but the most incredible thing I saw was that mostly everyone was talking to eachother and smiling. That right there is one of the reasons I love Narcelona so much! So much happiness! So after a drink and a quick snack, I headed to the market to check it out. It was packed with people, and some amazing fruits and vegetables and restaurants and many other things. I did go by this one place and saw a meat stick that looked delicious. It’s called fue but from the SLB camp I have come to just call it mets stick. I went to buy one and the main guy at the meat counter liked my buff. It was from the coastal challenge! He asked me if I was here to run the marathon and I said no but was at the presentation! We spoke half English half Spanish but definitely laughed and talked for a bit. He asked me why I was here and I told him about my camino that lie ahead and he smiled. He has done parts here and there and hopes,to do the whole thing one day! With that we parted ways both smiling with me saying”buena suerte” and him saying “buen camino!” This is so cool! Im getting so excited with all these subtle signs of my camino ahead!
The next day was even better!! I was able to walk by a barbershop sign and dropped in for. Quick beard trim! The whole beard looks even and beautiful and the barber even used the straight edge to clean up my cheeks and neck! I have been wanting a straight edge shave for a while! If I can find a barber along the way I think I may shave my beard but then again who knows! That will happen when it happens and I’m not planning on doing it just letting it happen when it feels right! So with a fresh and fine beard I met up with my new friend from the Strong Like Bull Training Camp Adiva! Actually I met her husband first because she was out walking her dog! We sat on their rooftop terrace and enjoyed the morning Sun and talked about everything with a lot about the camino. We may have started plans to bike the camino next year when her son can walk! How cool will that be! The beautiful sunshine that morning with the fresh cafe and beautiful conversation left me happier than ever! I figured then that I will move on and get closer to beginning my camino! On the way back to the place I was staying at I stopped for a cafe y tapa. I’m pretty sure I discovered the best patatas brava in the whole world! And the cafe was pure excellence! Everything is so amazing and beautiful and I am so happy! I hope everyone who reads this feels that way too! It’s a beautiful thing!
I finally went back to the apartment and packed up my stuff! I am so excited to be getting closer to the official start of my camino! In all honesty, my camino started the moment I left Costa Rica! I have never been to Spain and this has been one epic trip for me so far! Actually it is not even a trip but the life I was meant to live! Such a beautiful thing!
As I am about to head out the door and board a high speed train to San Sebastián I write my friend Olivier and Cova a message to thank them for their kindness and amazing hospitality when I notice in the room they let me use was a beautiful framed heart rock! I see love everywhere I go! In the smiles of zolivier and Cova I see it even more. Such beautiful souls out there spreading their joy with all those around! I can’t thank them enough but hope to see them down road and return the smiles they effortlessly gave to me! Love you both! Pura Vida!
