Day 14: 34.8 kilometers
Total: 413.1 kilometers
It was so foggy!!! And dark! It was like I was going to see batman swoop through between the halos of the lamp posts! It was excellent! I found my way to the edge of town then knew it was a straight shot for a while. In that time I figured it would get light and I could see. Well this fog stuck around for quite some time. It was pretty cool though to see mountains appear and dissapear. Along with that trees and rocks and everything that was further than ten meters from me would just appear! It was cool! I made it to the next city Bocadillo del Camino before no time because all was white with fog. From there to Fromista it was also a beautiful path along the canal. I started om-ing along my way and it felt pretty good! I would ommmmmmmm. And then breath once through my mouth then inhale deep through my nose and repeat! I started buzzing because maybe i reached a higher level or I wasn’t breathing enough when I was walking but either way it was pretty awesome! In Fromista I stopped for a small tortilla and a cafe con leche which hit the spot so right on the head it was perfect!
From there I left and walked through Formista and as I was leaving town, a group of 50 some jumped in behind me. Ugh. I heard them and looked back and I think it was a field trip or something. Everyone had either no bag or a very small one which means they probably won’t be hiking too far so that was cool with me. This group of ladies were talking and talking in the most annoying voice…. It was like they were shouting to out talk eachother. To me it felt like they were crows playing bingo and everyone got bingo at the same time. So I slowed down my pace and they slowed down, when I sped up they sped up… My goodness. The break I got was when I saw the two bikers from yesterday coming up by me! Heyyyyyyy! It was good to see a happy face! I asked them where their heart was and they just smiled. They told me not to worry and there will be some special ones down the road for me! It was great seeing them and I wished them a buen camino as they pedaled on. After that I let go of thinking about the screeching behind me , calling eachother on phones and such. I was nearing the next town were there was the decision where you can stay next to the highway in single file or go a bit further on a less marked scenic route. I chose the scenic and figured that would be too much for them. Exactly that! I heard them stop and ask eachother if I was lost, I was on the wrong route yadayada. 100 meters later pure peace!
I walked down this beautiful dirt farm road and loved every second! The birds, the smells, the trees, the fields! It all was perfect and I felt at peace! I saw a farmer and his tractor and he gave me a wave. This is the camino I like – pure peace and tranquility. I know I will come to parts where there are a lot of people but that group behind me was a bit much! I cruised along on the farm road then made it to the next little town of Villovieco! It was a super small farm town. I went to a little park and sat down for a while. A couple old guys here and there walked through the park then headed back to the bridge. As if to get their morning exercise in. When I peaked around the corner out of the park all the old guys were just sitting on the side of the bridge hanging out! It was so nice to see! They talked to eachother and every car that passed and they laughed! Oh how they laughed! It was so pure so great to have heard that and experienced that moment!
I followed the river all the to the Virgen del rio church then went left to head back to the main route in the town of Villalcázar de Sirga. It was another small town and it was nice. I went to the church and saw that you had to pay to enter do I chose not to. Anyways I went out to take a picture and it was Valeriio from Puente de Reina ! So good to see him again! We laughed and talked and hung out for a while! I never thought I would catch up to him but I did! It is such a good feeling seeing a friend again! Even though I just met him for one night I felt like I’ve known him forever! Just so nice to see him again. He went on walking and I went to grab some food. He was planning on going a little more than me so it’s all good. I’m sure we will meet again. And the coolest thing is we took the picture above together! And he asked me when is it going to be on my website! That is so cool! Gracias Valerio! When I went in to grab some food i saw some other pilgrims leaving and I said hi. Gloria and Adam who were really nice people from Houston and LA. We chatted a bit and laughed that we all have met people from our same home neighborhoods! How wild is that! I wished them a buen camino and probably would see them later since we were heading to the same place!
After a quick bite to eat I set out in the mid afternoon to finish the last 6k today! I left a little love along the way and felt pretty good coming into Carrion de los Condes! It was warmer and I put my long sleeve back on to shield from the sun but all went well! When I got in I walked around town and explored a little bit. The albergues looked alright but I ended up walking past them and stayed in a hostal tonight. It was my two week celebration! With a place for my bag I took a quick shower and headed out to see what was around. I bumped into Gloria and Adam from lunchtime a few times and kept on exploring. I saw a soccer game amongst friend and a dude riding his Clydesdale through the park! It was wild! The sunset looked beautiful but with the cloud cover it would dissapear before it hit the horizon so I went looking for food. By the recommendation of a sweet old lady I went to the cafeteria for cheap good food. When I walked in Gloria and Adam were there along with another friend from Minnesota! We all sat together and hung out while having dinner! It was so fun to meet people and hear there stories as well as tell your own! I felt great today and they could feel it! We talked a lot about positive energy and i feel like everybody gets it! It’s so nice to talk about anything and people are ok with it! The camino is beautiful! You know what else is beautiful? This amazing map I have of the camino from an amazing friend! I was looking over the notes in it And saw she had her first carajillo earlier that day so I decided to in her honor have one myself! (It is the same thing as cafe Rrrrrrrrra-ica like they serve at the most amazing restaurant in Monteverde Costa Rica called Morphos! Not only do they have the best cafe rica but the morpho burger is the best in the world! It is worth the ticket down to just head to the mountains and have a burger with some cafe rica and call it a day! Mad props to morphos for being so excellent and to my friend Selena for always coming out for lunch and a cafe rica or two! Those are always such fun times in Monteverde!) And now I’m infusing Costa Rica with the cafe rica and the camino and the carajillo! Whoa!!! All is epic in this world and I’m enjoying it! Until next time Pura Vida and buen camino!
