Day 6: 33.1 kilometers
Total: 177.2 kilometers
This morning started out beautifully! I went to bed late and woke up early charged and ready to rock and roll! I started the day by making an epic breakfast! It was the left over potato mix heated up over high heat to make crispy. Then I diced up some garlic, onions and mushrooms to start a 6 egg omelette! A half a bag of cheese went into that too when I folded it. A diced tomato topped it with a bit more cheese and the left over multigrain bread! It was a feast and we had plenty left over so not only Nico and I ate but we served a plate for my good friend Stephan and GianMarco, the Italian guys. The early morning cooking did rise up to the bedrooms and people came down with noses up seeing what dragged them down so early! It is so nice to have people love your food so much. Christine Lynch puts it best with when you put a lot of vitamin L in it you get a lot out! With L, standing for Love! After this awesome breakfast I soon headed out while everyone was still getting ready. Shortly into the walk, the sun erupted over the mountain with an epic sunrise that was oh so beautiful! This was going to be another amazing day!
After a few turns, I saw this amazing point in the background! Looking closer I saw a castle on top! I know then that when I got to that next town I would have to climb it to the summit! I was so super excited! Soon I came up to Amparo who slept in the other Albergue and left earlier than I did. I chatted with her quickly about how amazing everything was and how I was going to climb that mountain and she smiled. Even though I just met her, I feel so comfortable hanging out with her and i also feel super sad that this is going to be her last day… It was so great to meet her and I hope we stay in touch for many years to come! Such a beautiful, soul!
Yup! I made it to the top! It was an extra 2 kilometers and the stress of climbing but it was so worth it. The view from the top was incredible and just beautiful! I loved being up there and also loved being able to see the whole route of the camino all the way to Los Arcos! It was so cool! I was up on the top at the castle when the solar eclipse happened too! I got covered in clouds and missed seeing all of it but definitely knew it was a special moment. That moment charged me more than anything! I flew down the hill and went back to the little shop by the church that I asked the owners for the trail up. I needed a beer to celebrate this amazing decision! Just as I was finishing a few more pilgrims were walking by and we talked for a bit. Jo from Cali and Enrique from Spain. We chatted about everything but the main focus kept coming back to energy and it’s amazing power! It was very nice chatting with such cool down to earth people! Soon they both stopped to eat a sandwich and I kept on going. I felt great and was walking fast through the fields. I walked past a few other pilgrims and talked for a whole before moving ahead. Such amazing people out here!
Sooner than later I was in Los Arcos and sitting down for a cafe y bocadillo when I saw Stephan and GianMarco and Barbara! Super cool! We all joined at the table and had a cafe together. It was a great time. Inside the bar was my early friend Martha and her yoga friend Anne! It was great seeing them again! It is actually very nice to see everybody again. Just meeting people for moments makes it sound weird when you miss them like you knew them for years but I guess it happens on the camino. It was great seeing the Italians again and walking the last 8 k together. The walk was filled with laughing and good times and so many smiles. It was a beautiful walk even though we were all a bit tired.
Pure vibrations! We made it the lat bit to Torres del Rio and split up into different albergues. Tomorrow is planned that we will be cooking some amazing Italian pasta in Longrono! I am so stoked for not only the amazing food but for the camaraderie that goes with it! These are some truly amazing people that I love being around. Life is a beautiful thing bringing all of us together! That’s it for today! I need some sleep after a long day! Until next time, Pura Vida and Buan Camino!!
