Day 25: 47.2 kilometers (with 8k being an adventure searching for a castle )
Total: 829.0 kilometers
I had a hard time falling asleep right away because the cafe liqueur kept me awake for a bit but after a while I was fast asleep! I was so excited that I was getting close that I got up at 3:33 again! I did a 4-6-7 breathing technique and fell back asleep for a bit more. I was up and ready to go at 530. I put my bag downstairs the night before so all I had to do was gather my few things and head downstairs so I didn’t wake anyone else up there. I snuck down like a fox and packed my stuff and was ready to go in no time. Heading out it was surprisingly warm outside and I didn’t need my coat. I walked along the road and enjoyed the moon and the stars! I found a cool setting on my camera for night vision and used it like whoa! It was such a beautiful morning. I looked up into the sky and saw my shooting star! Always there for me and always amazing me! Such a beautiful morning!
I left some morning hearts every time I saw my shooting star and it felt good. I was still smiling from the night before hanging out with the ” party crew” and how much fun we had just hanging out. We talked a lot about love and my hearts and I left quite a few this morning and was smiling thinking about my friends coming across them and smiling because they knew I was ahead. I love making people smile even if I don’t know them!
I continued on and was happy to make it to Palas de Rei because I ran out of money. And needed an ATM to get some more. When I got to town I found an ATM and then was out of town before I found a cafe! It was a really small town! Leaving town though I did bump into two lovely ladies from Louisiana. They had walked the north route the year before and were going to walk from Sarria this year in between work obligations. Louise and Susan were really fun to walk with. They liked asking me questions and it was fun answering for me. Louise had a son who she said was a lot like me and loved the water. They lived in Kauai for the summers so it must be nice! Talking to them we walked out of the outskirts of town. Their kind hearts offered me all kinds of food without knowing that I missed a big dinner last night and was hungry for breakfast today. It’s like they jumped I to my head. They stayed in a nice hotel and took a bunch of fruit from the continental breakfast but I said I was ok because a town with a cafe was only 3 k ahead. Going up the hill they slowed down a bit and I kept going. I think I am in pretty good shape because I don’t even get winded going up hills while talking and the people I walk with are out of breath just listening! I felt great and actually joyfully walked almost a skip in my step with my arms out like I was flying. It was a beautiful morning.
The next little cafe was closed! Ohhh snap. Well it’s only a bit further to another and it was open. San Domingo was the best place ever. It was like I was meant to stop there. The owner asked me what I wanted and handed me the menu. I wanted a tortilla and that’s exactly what he made! The best tortilla I have ever had! He had classical music playing inside and I sat outside in the morning rays of sun. It was such a good vibe place! I wish I would of stayed there overnight. He had many quotes around that I felt were there for me to read at that moment. I had a coffee and he brought me out some cookies too. It was so good that I decided to get a bocadillo to go for 2 euros. This guy was amazing and you could feel it by being there.
After that I continued to walk. I looked for a castle that I could to find by local recommendations… it was always 2 kilometers away! I finally gave up and after an extra 8 k returned to the camino and felt the lightness of the camino enter my body! It felt so good to be back on the way, it was amazing! Almost tingling. After that I walked on to Melinde and had some amazing Pulpo for a late lunch. I sat next to three ladies who loved to talk to me and I tried my best to talk in Spanish but one knew English and translated for us! I made them laugh and they recommended white wine with the pulpo which was a great idea! It was all delicious so now with a happy stomach I headed out of town. Who do I see but the two ladies from Louisiana asking if I need food! They are so sweet! I was good to go and headed out of town.
At the next town I ran into my friends from the Pulpo place and we all sat down and laughed and smiled! I bought them a round of coffee for being so awesome! After that they headed out and I waited a bit then headed out myself. Before I got going my friends Kevin and Steph came rolling in and were going to stay at the town I was at then. They are moving it! I enjoy walking but I am not normal :). It was great to see them for a bit but they checked in and I took off.
I made it t Rabadisio quite easily and once I got there I checked in then jumped into the freezing river! It was refreshing and I knew I had a hot shower coming at me next! What a beautiful Albergue with such amazing people! After a shower I headed to the bar to get a meal and had a great spaghetti and egg meal! Protein and carbs! No wifi here so a guy I talked to a guy I saw earlier and scored the password of the place next to us! What a gentleman!
When I was about finished with dinner my friend from the other night, José walked in! It was so good to see him! We talked and hung out while he ate his meal and the we both headed back to the Albergue. He said we should have some more of his homemade cafe liqueur and I agreed! We sat outside in the brisk air listening to my music and looking at the photos from the day before! It was an awesome end to the day and I was so stoked that Jose came to join me! After that we all headed to bed !
Until next time – Pura Vida y BuenCamino y adventure on!!!!!
