Whoa! I slept in today! It felt great then after that I didn’t know what to do but walk around all day! Santiago is a different place. The old and the new mix right in front of your eyes. I did see many old building and the cathedral was very impressive. I thought it was nice to see flowers and gardens here and there as well as fountains. I like Santiago.
After a bit of walking around I found my way to the pilgrim office and received my compestela. It was quite the quick process but it felt great to have that in my hand. I put a lot of kilometers on my feet, on my strength and most importantly on my mind. A lot of thinking went deep into my mind. I learned a lot about myself. One of the biggest things is that my mission in life is to bring joy and love to others. Never ever did I think that making a little heart in the ground would mean so much. I made them for my own reason and it turned out to be so much more. More and more people saw them and more and more people started to know who I was before I met them. The heel slap chest pop happiness movement was in full effect. I loved all the random hugs I got from people, I loved when I was talking to someone new that they saw my rose quartz heart necklace that they knew I was the heart guy and smiled and hugged me. I could feel the love I was putting out to the universe coming back at me ten fold! This is Pura Vida this is heel slap chest pop this is my life!
I made it to the noon mass after getting a little snack and a coffee. The cathedral was impressive. So massive and so much in there. The Bota Fumeiro was hung in its place and I was impressed. I could imagine it swinging from a friends description three years ago and I knew I had to see it. I walked around the cathedral and hugged St James statue and saw his grave and found a nice seat. I was right in front of the guys who pull the rope for the Bota Fumeiro. It was a beautiful ceremony and the thing I noticed most at first was the nun. She was leading the singing and she looked so old but sung so sweet. Her hand moved like water in the air and was so beautiful. She had the most amazing voice. I enjoyed the ceremony and then it happened. They lit the incense and swung the Bota Fumeiro! It was incredible! It nearly hit the ceiling on both sides and swooped so low it looked like it would take your head off! The smoke filled the room and the cameras were out but it was truly special! I felt accomplished for walking across Spain. I met many people who either knew me or recognized me as the heart guy and it was great seeing everyone and getting so many hugs! After mass I went back to my hotel and took a nap. I waited to hear from my Italian friends. Sure enough they emailed me and we were going to meet for mass and dinner.
When I met my Italian friends GianMarco and Stefano, Martha and Anne were there too! It was a reunion! We went to mass and sat in the front row. It was even more spectacular and meant even more being with friends! I saw Kevin and Steph again and it was so nice to see them! They were such cool people, and I hope I see them again down the road! After the mass we headed out for dinner at a beautiful place. Dinner was filled with many laughs and good times. We all did it and it felt good. Martha and Anne’s Albergue was closing so they headed out but Stefano, GianMarco, and I stayed out at another bar for a celebratory drink. It was great seeing my family again! It felt good and it was good! We planned to meet the next day for lunch and then head out. It was perfect. Not a early morning but one filled with much relaxation. I mean come on we only have three days of little walking left! This last section is nothing compared to the rest of the walk! My body is conditioned and so is my mind. I’m ready for any thing and I’m going to make this last part my celebration. Enjoying my time and my steps and starting out by not leaving until afternoon! Everything will be alright! I mean if Bob Marley says it then it must be true!
Ok I’m off to bed now so Pura Vida! Buen camino! And adventure on!!!!
