Magical moments start like this!!! This was the beginning to my Adventure in Austra, crossing in from Germany! What a wild ride!
Now for a picture walk through of some of my highlights:
I enjoy leaving love every where I go! It's a beautiful thing :) This is coming out of the Gorge in beautiful Austria. Pura Vida!
I felt literally on top of the world in a quick visit back into Garmisch. It was a postcard view everywhere you looked and someone left a huge heart in the grass! Couldn't resist standing on my head inside of it!
I went to the top of the mountain and then jumped off!! So here is the funny part. Due to me being a bigger guy, the guide that was assigned to me was the smallest one they had! It made for a few laughs on the way up to the top. So here we are on the edge of the cliff which went at a steep angle for a bit then went straight down. I was ready to get this party started. My guide told me in a pre jump quick talk that we would start off walking together until he said run, and that's when we would start running until you feel the chute pull you a bit and then you jump and off you go! Sounds easy right? Well let me tell you how it went for me. I was hooked up to a little man behind me (my guide) and our chute was laid out and ready to go. In unison we started walking and the chute quickly picked up! Awahhh Snap!!! Now it is time to run. My strides quickly overtook my small guide and he quickly just jumped on my back piggy back style. I felt him on my back and then felt the chute pull me so I jumped! My brief smile of take off was quickly turned into a hold your breath for impact face! The chute did pick us up but what my guide later told me was that I ran too fast with way too much force. He called me a bull! So we both were picked up in a pendulum like motion and then without enough lift came crashing back to the ground just meters away from the drop off! I laughed quite a bit and only smashed, slightly sprained, my ankle. Whoa that was fun but let's try that again alright! This time at a much easier run, I kept moving until the chute picked us nicely off the ground just as we came to the drop off! Phewww! We made it! As soon as we were up, my guide said he needed to relax a bit and gave me the ropes. I banked and swooped and turned and flew! It was incredible! I flew all the way around looking at the beautiful scenery every where! Coming over the landing field, my guide asked if I wanted to do some spirals. Of course I dooooo whwwhhhhhooooaaaaaa! He dropped the one corner of the shoot and we were lickity split spiraling to the ground! So many G's was so cool! It was like the best roller coaster I have ever been on! Whoop whoop! Landing safely I waited for my friend to come down and we all hugged in pure excitement! This was such an incredible experience and thrill!
On my way to Innsbruck, I met this lovely girl named Janne! She was so cool and spoke english too! What was just a nice chat on a bus turned out to be a gorgeous afternoon hike up Patcheskofel! Janne is such a beautiful person and it was so nice to spend time with her! We went hiking up in the mountains, made our own trail down to a river, took a nap in a sun puddle next to a babbling brook, had a nice dinner in a local place in town, and shared many great laughs about everything. Pura vida Janne!
Another day, Janne took me to a local spot below the Olympic ski jump area on this river. It was very nice and we hiked around and hung out and even made this heart together! She was going to but after I jumped in the freezing water she decided not too :) We even caught one of the most spectacular sunsets together from a nice gazebo on a cliff. No day is complete without a few beers and brats! After a little dinner break we did a night tour of the city and even made it out for some ice cream!
We went hiking up Nordkette one day and it was like being in heaven. My oh my, we literally went through the clouds and hiked on terrain that made you feel like you were on the moon! There are these beautiful mountain huts up scattered throughout that does make it an option for me in the future to live in these incredible mountains! What a beautiful day!
One of my highlights of Austria was coming down the local route from Nordkette. It was roughly 800meters of elevation change over 2.5 km distance! That's like straight down and it was all on loose screed. We ended up run-falling the whole way down with a little bit of skiing! It was so cool! I would walk back up it and do it again if I had time. All i know is that this was so fun that it is on my to do list next time I make it to town! Until the next adventure! Pura Vida!!!
